Heaven’s Gate

Heaven’s Gate

How can I explain this? The confusion reigning right now in the church has done something profound in my life. It has moved me to decision, it has confined me to my room at night, petitioned me to turn off the noise of the world ( TV, and comment boxes) in favor of submitting to an insatiable hunger for truth and seeking it with every fiber of my being. You can accomplish a great deal I have found, when you go back to the basics–which actually are quite profound– and in the midst of this spiritual drought, study the faith anew seeking the Lord in the ~ Holy Scriptures the Catechism and the saints   Many contortions of modernist ramblings can be bypassed when you simply submit to the truth as our magisterium has protected for her children...

I understand the mystery as this….

I understand the mystery as this….

Baptism, (especially infant baptism) was one of the things I fought hard against in my Protestant days. For the most part, evangelicals don’t believe it’s necessary for salvation. It’s not essential to being ‘born again.’ No, for them baptism is simply done in imitation of Christ, because to say it’s necessary would mean salvation required— ‘a work.’ They teach it’s important for discipleship, but there’s no special grace that comes from it; it’s simply an outward profession of an inward change done in obedience as a witness to conversion. There’s no sacramental economy in evangelicalism. Remember– they teach…faith alone saves you . I wish I had the time to write out...

There’s No Secret Code

There’s No Secret Code

The longer I submerge my life into Holy Mother Church, the more I recognize her profound beauty, the more I love her and long for others to know the wisdom of the full deposit of our faith as Catholics. ...preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching. —2 Timothy 4:2 Lately, this word ‘urgent’ stands out to me, as well as the call to unfailing patience, because now is ‘the time to speak.’ The complications we see evident among our own neighbors are like a labyrinth from which people are seeking a way out, a treasure map containing some secret code. There is no secret code, but there is a seduction being offered today which tempts many to set aside...

Calculated Distance

Calculated Distance

Father Maurice, a priest from Nigeria, is doing a study on Faith on EWTN.. He’s excellent and reminds me of my own pastor. He began his last teaching with a story of someone from his country who tempted God’s grace. Father used it as an example of the many horrible things people have done in the name of faith.   Twenty years ago an evangelical pastor reveling in the spirit of the New Pentecost, after prayers in his ecclesial community, decided to show off his faith. He told the congregation, that he would do exactly what Daniel did when he was thrown into the lion’s den and yet the lion did not devour him.    He invited his congregation to come and see what God would do. On the day–the community gathered and watched...
