What is necessary in the time of temptation ?

What is necessary in the time of temptation ?

The Lord says, I have instructed my prophets from the beginning. Even to the present time I have not stopped speaking to all men, but many are deaf and obstinate in response…..   Write my words in your heart and study them diligently, for they will be absolutely necessary in the time of temptation. Whatever you fail to understand in reading my words will become clear to you on the day of your visitation. —Thomas a’Kempis   +PAX

What have we done with our inheritance?

A man had two sons. This is the how the Lord begins one of the greatest parables of the New Testament: that of the prodigal (lost) and dutiful son. But, just before telling this to His audience, the Pharisees, the last verses of chapter 14  warn us of something I have always considered the worst thing that could be said of any Christian—that we start out well with God and end up being quite useless. With regards to what it means to be a disciple, Jesus says, salt is a useful thing. Yet, if the salt itself loses it’s taste, it’s not good enough for either the soil or the manure heap. The Lord doesn’t usually precede a parable with a parable, but in the case of the prodigal, He precedes it with two: one for men and one for women,...

The Synod Showdown

Is only a few weeks away. In one corner: those who want the Catholic faith to change so they can use the change to accommodate sin and a further eroding of the Faith. In the other corner: the leaders who are holding fast and advancing the truth of the Son of God in the face of traitorous prelates   Have you signed the filial appeal yet? +PAX

Protest PP

Since viewing the undercover videos which have further exposed what goes on in Planned Parenthood facilities, I can’t think of much else these days. I was alerted to ProtestPP.com through a show on EWTN. There’s a link to find protest locations in your city and state…   ProtestPP is a coalition of pro-life groups calling for a National Day of Protest on August 22, 2015 at Planned Parenthood facilities all across America. Our goal is to raise awareness of the heartless and even illegal activities of Planned Parenthood by going to where the killing and harvesting of body parts from aborted children takes place. The four main sponsors are: Created Equal, the Pro-Life Action League, 40 Days for Life, and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society.mission...

He knows them, they are His wonders

Priests for Life has all the undercover Planned Parenthood videos linked here including the one released today where Holly O’Donnell struggles with her eyewitness account of seeing a baby boy born intact after an abortion. She struggles to hold back emotion as she recounts seeing his tiny heart beating and was asked to follow through with orders to harvest his little brain. Recently, I struggled through a series on the History Channel detailing the horrors of Hitler’s Final Solution. How, I ask you, is this any different? It’s interesting that in the Evening Prayer of the Divine Office today, this was read from Psalm 139. As I prayed it, I thought of that little baby’s face and all the baby parts that were in all the videos and how they...

Hollywood and the godless culture

Well, I fell for it. One of those creepy trending adds at the bottom of a site I was on. My rationalization? Oh, it’ll be good info for my religious ed students this fall, especially since I’m nervously anticipating going up with my class and teaching 7th graders this year. Good to stay literate with the culture. The title intrigued me though anyone who knows me knows not to bother asking about Hollywood people, movies, popular TV shows or things of that nature…not much interest there. I know, I know, the church teaches we should love the culture and find ways to “engage” and “dialogue” and all that…but, I can’t help you with Hollywood and most modern entertainment; I wind up annoyed and preaching to the...

Father Rutler addresses ‘men without chests’

Here’s how a courageous man of God speaks truth into a culture that cannot recognize the wolves in sheep’s clothing..He is indeed a modern day prophet. July 28, 2015 Crisis Magazine The Pity of Christ by Father George Rutler   Christ cannot be psychoanalyzed because he is perfect.  It would be like seeking flaws in pure crystal or long shadows at high noon. That is why he may seem from our fallen state in a singularly ill-contrived world as both severe and merciful, ethereal and common, rebellious and routine, rustic and royal, solitary and brotherly, young and ageless.  His perfection is a stubborn enigma to the imperfect, but if there is to be one hint of the art that moves his mind, it will be in his pity.  It will be in his pity for the whole...

Progress or Regress

Progress or Regress

Today is the feast of my holy father St Benedict. In the cultural climate we find ourselves, it’s appropriate to identify with St Benedict in the spirit of his mission. Disappointed in the worldliness of his surroundings, he too faced the truth of the corruption of his time and surrendered to God. In doing so he was blessed with God’s wisdom, and wrote the Holy Rule which even today gives guidance to all as they progress on their journey to God. In America today, we like Europe who after emerging from the wounds of two World Wars and the collapse of so called great ideologies, are still in search of an identity. None of us seem able to learn the lesson that history has taught us ad nauseum;  “In order to create new and lasting unity,...

Hope in God

Hope in God

For those of us who have been cast down in spirit of late, the morning prayer reminded me today ~ “When His strength takes possession of us we will no longer say: Why are you cast down, my soul?   So now that the surging waves of your indignation have passed over us, let us feel the healing calm of Your forgiveness.”   Over and over I read in St Faustina’s diary how it grieves the Lord that His own people don’t trust in Him. We falter so easily when as we see the tide of evil rise beyond our control..and there’s no doubt that it is. The lives of the saints teach me that to live by faith is to be sure of God even, With cries that pierce me to the heart, my enemies revile me, saying to me all the day long: “Where...

5-4

After the Supreme Court ruling today, may God have mercy on us. “It’s one thing to know the enemy is coming and try to prepare for it. But that doesn’t make the moment when they came over the hill any easier.    Today, they came over the hill. In a 5-4 ruling, “Gay Marriage” has been imposed nationwide.”   This is the fruit of a spiritual battle that has long planned for the destruction of anything Catholic or Christian in our culture. My father used to say: if you want to dance you have to pay the piano man. And today the piano man came to collect on the wages of sin, but only a few know or understand how high the price will be to dance with this devil. However high the cost, we will win the war and my prayer is that...

We need to read it

She’s right…read it. “Ladies and gentlemen, the problems within our Church can be blamed (in part) on faithful Catholics who have not been diligent in doing their research and are content to let others do “the heavy lifting” and thinking for them.” It will be difficult because– in my humble opinion– the encyclical is full of progessivism, humanism and that other ‘ism’ that gets my blood pressure going: modernism. As a catechist and teacher of the faith, I have no choice but to read it so that I may in good conscience present to those who come to learn the truth, the deposit of faith, not ‘how I feel’, but what the church has always taught. Here it is....
